EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The woman identified as the suspect driver in a fatal hit-and-run crash in July 2025, has been arrested over a year later.

According to a Facebook post from the Eagle Pass Police Department, 29-year-old Melanie Christine Cuellar was arrested Thursday, Sept. 17, at the at U.S. Port of Entry No. 2.
As previously reported by KTSM 9 News, Cuellar was wanted on an active warrant for collision involving death after she allegedly struck 77-year-old Maria Lopez in South-Central El Paso, then fled to Mexico.
Lopez was struck and killed while crossing Alameda Avenue on July 19, 2025, and died at the scene.

Cuellar was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center, where she will remain pending extradition proceedings, police said…
