A teenage motorcyclist was left in critical condition Wednesday night after colliding with a vehicle at the intersection of 475 East and 9000 South in Sandy, according to police. The crash happened around 8 p.m. as the rider was traveling eastbound on 9000 South and the vehicle was heading along 475 East, and the teen was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries.
Sandy Police Sergeant Michael Olsen described the injured rider as a teenager but said officials have not publicly confirmed whether the motorcyclist is a juvenile or between 18 and 19 years old, as reported by ABC4 Utah. The driver of the other vehicle stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, per the outlet’s report. Officials said they have not yet determined whether speed or impairment played a role in the collision, and a crash reconstruction team is working to piece together what led up to it.
The right lane of eastbound 9000 South remains closed at 470 East as the investigation continues, and no additional details have been released. It’s still unclear which vehicle had the right-of-way at the intersection.
