SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe signed an executive order Wednesday placing restrictions on license plate readers. Springfield police officers said the order will not impact their policies or how they use their Flock cameras.
Police said the Springfield Police Department’s restrictions already meet or exceed the new state safeguards against misuse of the cameras, protecting the privacy of motorists while still providing a tool to officers working to solve crimes.
“We hear the concerns of the public. We know that privacy is a concern. We share those concerns, and we want to find a good middle ground where we balance that privacy versus the benefits to the investigations that we see,” said Major Tad Peters. “So, it’s undeniable these cameras have helped us reduce crime in Springfield. But, you know, there’s always a balance between that privacy interest and the investigative interest.”…
