More traffic woes are in store for San Antonio drivers along Loop 16404 this weekend. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will demolish a “major” section of the old Loop 1604 bridge over Interstate 10 as work continues on the $1.4 billion Loop 1604 North Expansion Project.
The agency says drivers may want to give themselves additional time for travel, as construction on the bridge will bring about a series of closures on the I-10 and Loop 1604 interchange beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, September 18, through 5 a.m. on Monday, September, 21.
Both the east and westbound Loop 1604 frontage roads will be closed at the interchange through the weekend. Additionally, the eastbound and westbound mainlanes on I-10 will be closed at the interchange while TxDOT crews demolish the bridge.
Drivers won’t be completely cut off from access along the highway. All flyover ramps, the eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes and the eastbound and westbound I-10 frontage roads will remain open over the weekend…
