The Associated General Contractors of Georgia is hosting their annual Georgia Skills Challenge, a hands-on trade skills competition for high schoolers that is judged by real construction companies. Columbus’ regional event, The West Georgia Skills Challenge will be at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center on November 4.
The AGC is partnering with SkillsUSA Georgia, giving high school students from a 15-county region a chance to weld, wire and build their way toward career opportunities.
Statewide, the program drew more than 2,300 students from 108 schools in 2025. Organizers expect similar turnout this fall.
What to know:
Students compete in front of judges from actual construction firms, not classroom instructors or program mentors. This year, the competition will be held in eight regions this year, including Augusta, Columbus, Gainesville, Marietta, Moultrie, Perry, Rome and Statesboro…
