INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A driver who reached 120 mph on I-95 while fleeing law enforcement came to a crashing stop after striking a fence and tree before overturning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident began near mile marker 131 on I-95 after the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office reported that a black four-door sedan had fled a traffic stop, according to an FHP report. An FHP trooper later spotted the vehicle near mile marker 137 and began following it.
FHP said the vehicle accelerated to about 115 mph in a 70-mph zone, with the trooper’s radar registering a speed of 120 mph. While following the vehicle, the trooper encountered a construction zone with workers present.
