BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Iberville Federal Credit Union in Plaquemine was forced to close its doors Friday due to a nationwide computer system outage affecting hundreds of financial institutions.
On Friday afternoon, several upset customers gathered outside the locked credit union hoping to get answers. Those customers said they have been unable to find out what is going on, claiming their phone calls and emails to the credit union have gone unanswered.
The Plaquemine Police Department was called to the credit union Friday afternoon for a “disturbance call” regarding a woman who was angry she could not access her money, Chief Stephen Engolio said.
According to a notice posted on the credit union’s website, the disruption stems from a “cooling infrastructure failure” suffered earlier this week by its core processing vendor, Sharetec.
