Downtown Rockford to get 142 apartments and new waterfront shops in $78 million overhaul

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Two major redevelopment projects totaling more than $78 million are expected to bring 142 apartments, new storefronts, and restaurants to downtown Rockford.

Urban Equity Properties announced Friday that it plans to redevelop the former Rockford Register Star News Tower and the former Rever’s Marina building along the east bank of the Rock River.

The projects include the $52.6 million News Tower Lofts development and the $25.8 million Water Street Flats project. Together, the plans call for 142 residential units, 15 retail storefronts, an upscale restaurant and a riverfront pub…
