A Shalersville Township woman barricaded herself inside her home armed with a knife, touching off an hourlong standoff that ended when a tactical team breached the residence and took her into custody using less-lethal force.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office said deputies had probable cause to arrest Beaver when they arrived. When deputies attempted to take her into custody, the woman became agitated, armed herself with a knife and barricaded herself inside the residence.
Deputies communicated with Beaver for more than an hour, according to the sheriff’s office. During the standoff, deputies contacted the sheriff’s office Tactical Response Team and obtained warrants before the tactical response.
Tactical Team Breaches Home, Uses Less-Lethal Force
Members of the Tactical Response Team entered the home and apprehended Beaver using less-lethal munitions, according to the sheriff’s office. She was evaluated after her arrest and then booked into the Portage County Justice Center.
The sheriff’s office account emphasizes that deputies communicated with Beaver for more than an hour before the tactical team entered.
