Central-Phenix City rides big-play night from QB Bobby Coleman in rout of Auburn

Bobby Coleman completed 23-of-31 passes for a career-high 422 yards and 4 touchdowns to lead second-ranked Central-Phenix City to a 42-10 rout of No. 6 Auburn in a Class 6A, Region 2 showdown Friday night at Garrett-Harrison Stadium. The win was the fourth straight for the Red Devils.

Coleman threw scoring passes of 60, 31 and 57 yards to Braylen Averett — the 60-yarder came on the first play from scrimmage – and a 57-yard TD to Mike Bass as the Red Devils (4-1, 3-0) seized the upper hand in the region race. The winner of this game has won the region for the past 12 years – 10 of those by Central.

“We saw tonight what we can do,” said Red Devils coach Cody Flournoy, whose team piled up 513 yards of total offense despite having the ball for only 19 of the game’s 48 minutes. “We know we’ve got the weapons. We’re just trying to work every week to be a better picture of what we think we can be.”…
