16-Year-Old Killed in Fiery Sacramento Power Pole Crash

A 16-year-old boy died and his passenger was seriously injured after a single-vehicle crash on El Camino Avenue near Verna Way in Sacramento County’s Arden-Arcade area. The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, according to the California Highway Patrol’s North Sacramento office.

CHP said the teen was driving eastbound at a high rate of speed when another vehicle pulled out in front of him. He lost control, struck a power pole hard enough to shear it, and was ejected from the car as it caught fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.

What happened to the passenger

CHP has since confirmed the passenger was an adult woman, not another teenager as some early reports left unclear. She remained inside the burning vehicle until Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews pulled her out.
