Why is the temperature 10 degrees below average this weekend?
Southern New England says goodbye to warm temperatures and hello to a new fall-like air mass as the weekend begins. Most noticeably, our dew points have tanked into the 40s, which is giving this air a crisp, fall-like feel. It also helps that our temperatures are almost 10 degrees below average for this time of the year!
Even if you are not a fan of the fall weather, at least enjoy the sunshine today because it’s a different story for the second half of the weekend.
Clouds move into Southern New England Saturday night into Sunday morning. There could be a few slivers of sunshine before clouds completely blanket the region. These clouds will be associated with our next storm system expected to arrive between 11 AM and 2 PM, with scattered to widespread rain showers.
Once the rain arrives, it’ll be with us through the rest of the daylight hours and into Sunday night. Rain could become steady at times, but nothing that would raise concerns of flooding. This activity wraps up for most of us during the predawn hours on Monday, but a couple of lingering showers might be found out towards the Cape and the Islands.
Rainfall accumulations are expected to be manageable, with most observing 0.25-0.75 inches. On the higher end, some isolated pockets of an inch are possible.
Behind this storm is system is a rather cool stretch of weather. Temperatures into the middle part of next week are in the 60s. In fact, there is not another 70-degree day on the 10-day forecast!…
