Just weeks after it opened, a city health inspector has shut down the 24/7 Corgi Cafe in the Dogpatch for operating without a valid permit, according to a notice posted on the front door this week.The cafe owners described the closure as an “administrative issue” related to the transition from a temporary permit to a permanent one, according to a statement first published in the San Francisco Standard. Run by the AI startup insurance firm Corgi Insurance, the 24/7 Corgi Cafe opened its second orange-colored location on Third Street just last month. It’s the start-up’s second San Francisco location, and they have more in the U.S. and the United Kingdom.
The permitting snafu comes amid the insurance company’s ambitious plans to open more than 100 cafes in San Francisco, which it envisions as a marketing tool for the start-up. The cafes offer Wi-Fi, around-the-clock access and drinks like coffee and smoothies and light snacks.
This month, the company paid $11 million for a commercial property at 600 20th St. in the Dogpatch, which was owned by Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. The deal netted Curry about $2.5 million on the property he bought two years ago.
