Buffalo Bills fans got more than just a thrilling 41-31 victory over the Detroit Lions during Thursday night’s home opener at the brand-new Highmark Stadium-they also encountered some jaw-dropping concession prices that quickly became the talk of the night.
At the $2.1 billion stadium’s inaugural regular-season game, fans and social media alike buzzed about the steep costs. For instance, a 16-ounce domestic beer paired with one of the stadium’s souvenir Bills beer horns came with a hefty $30 price tag. One couple shared with Outkick that their total for two beers, two beer horns, a bucket of popcorn, and a personal pizza reached $113.
The beer horns, designed with lids to prevent spills while navigating the concourse, proved extremely popular despite the cost, drawing lines that stretched over an hour. One fan reported waiting an hour and fifteen minutes just to snag one, with others confirming lengthy waits throughout the evening.
Price hikes extended beyond beverages. A souvenir bucket of popcorn was priced at $19, while a smaller dill pickle-flavored version cost $10.
Heartier snacks included pierogies and a sweet Italian sausage sub, each $14, and chicken wings at $18. Adding to fan frustration, the 300-level concourse near the beer horn stands became congested for much of the night.
On the field, however, the Bills gave their fans plenty to cheer. Josh Allen dazzled with five touchdowns-three passing and two rushing-leading Buffalo to a decisive win and an impressive debut at their new home.
Highmark Stadium, which broke ground in May 2023, holds 60,108 spectators-about 10,000 fewer than the team’s previous venue-but boasts several state-of-the-art features. These include a natural grass field with underground heating coils, an automated snow-melt system, and a 360-degree canopy covering roughly 60% of the seats, all aimed at keeping fans comfortable in Buffalo’s notoriously harsh winters while maintaining the beloved outdoor atmosphere.
Outside the stadium, the pregame festivities lived up to Buffalo’s tailgating reputation. Veteran tailgate host Pinto Ron attracted crowds with his famous Hammer Lot setup, featuring shots poured through a bowling ball finger hole and food cooked on the hood of his vintage Pinto. Nearby, the “Tubgaters” warmed up a traveling hot tub heated to a cozy 98 degrees for the early-season kickoff, with plans to crank it up to 115 degrees in colder months.
Despite the sticker shock and long lines, most fans agreed the excitement of the night and the Bills’ commanding win made the splurge well worth it.
