Toledo Fire Chief Allison Armstrong suffered significant injuries Friday night in a car crash in Colorado, Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said Saturday.
Chief Armstrong was in Colorado to attend a firefighter conference when the crash occurred, the mayor said. Members of Toledo Firefighters Local 92 who were attending the same event were able to help care for Chief Armstrong and spend time with her in the hospital. Her husband traveled to Colorado on Saturday to be with her.
Chief Armstrong said another driver struck her vehicle at a high rate of speed, pushing it into a concrete barrier wall and totaling the vehicle. The other driver fled the scene but was later arrested on charges that included driving under the influence, she said in a Facebook post.
