Golden Grain Artisanal Bread Opens Café at 250 Commercial Street, Bringing Home-Baked Sourdough to Worcester

WORCESTER, MA — For nearly two years, Golden Grain Artisanal Bread existed inside a home kitchen in Princeton, where baker Bryan Faucher worked around the clock in a conventional electric oven, two loaves at a time, to keep up with farmers market orders. Now the bread has a permanent address: 250 Commercial Street in Worcester, where Golden Grain has opened its first café.

Faucher, who holds the title of Owner and Baker, runs the business alongside his wife, Leidy Faucher, who handles the operations, paperwork and behind-the-scenes work that keeps the café running. “We’ve both been working on Golden Grain together from the beginning, and we truly love what we’re building,” Leidy Faucher said.

The idea for Golden Grain took shape after a Christmas tree shopping trip to Maplebrook Farmstead in Sterling, where owner Hannah sells farm products through a self-serve, honor-system shop. “It was also bustling with customers. I was blown away!” Bryan Faucher said. “Until then, I wasn’t certain that there was enough of an appetite for locally produced goods.” Golden Grain launched a few months later, in 2024.

How it started

The early months were demanding. Working from a home oven limited production to two loaves at a time, which meant long, irregular hours to be ready for markets. “It was grueling, but it also taught me to think ahead, to anticipate issues, and to hold multiple running clocks in my head,” Faucher said…
