Parents at Douglass Elementary say Boulder Valley School District’s Resilient Schools plan would scatter a neighborhood school they argue never met the district’s older closure triggers. The Lafayette City Council said they were not briefed or consulted on the closure of Douglass despite being the hometown for nearly half of the school’s students.
The Board of Education is scheduled to vote Tuesday, Sept. 22. If approved, Douglass would close and its attendance area would be divided among Coal Creek, Eisenhower and Heatherwood. High Peaks Elementary would move into the Douglass building off 75th Street. Changes would take effect in 2027–28.
Douglass PTO President Cheryl Blackwood, who lives near the school in unincorporated Boulder, said families expected the school would grow by absorbing students from other schools. The Long Range Advisory Committee (LRAC) had previously flagged other low-enrollment schools for intervention.
