‘Grit City Gauntlet’ inspires hundreds to learn about Tacoma through walking

How well do you know your city? Hundreds of people found out Saturday by walking 22 miles through Tacoma, from downtown to Point Defiance and back again.

Around 200 people decked in backpacks and hiking gear gathered outside the Washington State History Museum in the crisp September morning air to participate in the Grit City Gauntlet.

At 9 a.m. they took off, walking from downtown Tacoma through the Stadium District all the way to Proctor Farmer’s Market for the first break. Then the group headed northbound, looped around Point Defiance Park and walked through Old Town back to downtown…
