In 1987, Greg Evigan, Paul Reiser, and Staci Keanan brought to life one of television’s most unique family setups on the NBC sitcom My Two Dads. Now, nearly four decades later, Evigan is reflecting warmly on the cast and the show that left a lasting impression.
To commemorate the show’s premiere on September 20, 1987, Evigan shared a nostalgic photo on Instagram featuring himself alongside Reiser and Keanan. “So, this show premiered on today’s date in 1987!!”
he wrote. “I can’t believe next year will mark its 40th anniversary.

The series centered around Evigan’s character, Joey Harris, a free-spirited artist, and Reiser’s Michael Taylor, a more conservative financial adviser. The two former romantic rivals unexpectedly became co-parents to 12-year-old Nicole Bradford, portrayed by Keanan. Nicole’s mother had passed away, and since either Joey or Michael could be her biological father, the court awarded them joint custody rather than determining paternity, creating the show’s distinctive family dynamic.
My Two Dads aired for three seasons, concluding in April 1990. The cast also included Florence Stanley as Judge Margaret Wilbur, who presided over the custody arrangement, along with Dick Butkus, Giovanni Ribisi, and Chad Allen in supporting roles.
One of the show’s intriguing elements was its decision never to reveal definitively which man was Nicole’s biological father. A memorable episode featured a DNA test that Nicole destroyed before the results could be seen. Judge Wilbur later viewed the results but chose not to disclose the outcome, leaving the mystery intact for viewers.
Evigan’s involvement with the series extended beyond acting; he also wrote and performed the theme song, “You Can Count On Me.”
At 72, Evigan has recently been reminiscing about his earlier television work, including his role on NBC’s B.J. and the Bear (1979-1981), where he famously worked alongside a chimpanzee co-star. However, on September 20, his focus remained on celebrating the legacy of My Two Dads as it approaches its 40th anniversary in 2027.
