WATERVLIET, NY (WRGB) — Watervliet’s deep ties to the world-famous Meneely bells are being sealed into the ground for future generations, as the city marks a major milestone in the foundries’ history with a time capsule at the former site.
The Meneely bells were cast in Watervliet for 125 years, dating back to 1826, Mayor Charles Patricelli said. Patricelli said the foundries produced tens of thousands of bells made for locations around the world, with bells coming from both a factory in Troy and the factory in Watervliet.
“They made over 65,000-70,000 bells and they were made for all over the world. We have bells from the factory in Troy and the factory here in Watervliet. It’s kind of nice to have that history stay here alive in Watervliet,” Patricelli said…
