A Philadelphia man has been accused of driving under the influence and fleeing from police during a traffic stop after allegedly stealing from a grocery store.
Edward Smith, 43, has been charged with felony fleeing from an officer, among other misdemeanor charges.
On Sept. 14 at around 9:51 p.m., Whitemarsh Township Police responded to the Giant Food grocery store on 10 Ridge Pike for a report of a retail theft in progress. Employees reportedly told police that the suspect fled the scene in a white box truck toward the intersection of Ridge Pike and Butler Pike, according to a police affidavit.
