Tucked into a tiny west Houston shopping center alongside a massage spa, smoke shop and dry cleaner, one business stands out. Follow the sound of Spanish melodies spilling from the corner space, and you’ll find one of Houston’s oldest restaurants: El Patio.
For longtime locals, the decades-old restaurant at 6444 Westheimer Rd. has become a household name in Houston’s Tex-Mex scene. But to any transplants, like myself, its modest strip-mall storefront can easily blend in among the many businesses lining the busy street.
