ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Nearly two years after Helene left much of western North Carolina without reliable cell service, Verizon says it has made major upgrades across the region to keep communities connected during the next potential disaster.
The company says its work has included six new cell towers, 28 major site upgrades and new street-level small cells across Buncombe and Henderson counties, including Asheville, Swannanoa, Black Mountain and Hendersonville.
Verizon has also added low-band 5G across 81 sites, which the company says expands coverage and capacity in mountainous, rural and suburban communities…
