U.S. Steel on Monday held a groundbreaking for a $475 million expansion of its tubular operations in Fairfield, promising up to 250 full-time jobs and 600 jobs during its two-year construction timeline.
By the time the expansion is completed in the second quarter of 2028, the company said, 220 of those permanent jobs will be union, along with 30 non-union management positions.
