House Passes Bill to Transfer Federal Land for New Veterans Home in Harnett County

The U.S. House passed a bill this week to hand over a 20-acre federal parcel in Harnett County to North Carolina for a replacement veterans home, according to the Fayetteville Observer. The legislation now heads to the Senate.

Rep. Richard Hudson sponsored the measure. It would allow construction of a new facility on land at the Fort Bragg Training Area. The proposed home would replace the Fayetteville State Veterans Home, which closed in December 2023 after workers discovered mold and structural problems.

Eighty-five veterans were displaced. They had to leave the Cochran Avenue facility and move to other state-run homes across North Carolina in Black Mountain, Kernersville, Kinston, and Salisbury…
