Buncombe County has received a $786,000 grant to repair and extend sidewalks in Swannanoa’s commercial corridor as part of Helene recovery. The project will cover Railroad Street, Alexander Place and South Avenue, improving roughly 1,000 square yards of pedestrian infrastructure.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation will manage construction. Buncombe County partnered with the department on two applications to the state’s Small Business Infrastructure Grant Program.
An earlier $979,000 award supports sidewalk improvements on Whitson Avenue. Together, the two grants bring the county’s funding through that program for Swannanoa to more than $1.7 million, according to county officials…
