Cleveland man who slammed into police cars, fled from officers sentenced on drug charges

CLEVELAND (WJW) – A Cleveland man previously convicted of past drug charges was sentenced to prison, prosecutors announced on Monday.

Jermaine Cottrell, 30, was sentenced to more than 12 years behind bars, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Ohio.

Court records show that officers tried to pull over Cottrell in a CVS pharmacy parking lot in September 2025. Investigators said when officers tried to box in his vehicle, Cottrell rammed into police cruisers and ran away on foot.

Authorities then caught Cottrell and, according to prosecutors, “while officers attempted to secure him in handcuffs, Cottrell shoved several small plastic bags of narcotics into his mouth which he later spit out while EMS transported him to a hospital. “…
