Universal City, Calif. — “Back to the Future” is heading back to the big screen — and this time, the DeLorean will be moving in more ways than one.
Universal Pictures will bring the 1985 time-travel adventure back to theaters nationwide for one day only on Oct. 21, 2026, with screenings in standard theaters as well as premium formats including 4DX and D-Box.
The date is no accident. Fans celebrate Oct. 21 as “Back to the Future” Day, marking the date Marty McFly travels to in “Back to the Future Part II.” For the 2026 rerelease, moviegoers will be able to experience the original film with the moving seats and environmental effects of 4DX or the motion-enabled seating of D-Box.
Although Oct. 21 gets its significance from “Back to the Future Part II,” the movie returning to theaters is the original 1985 “Back to the Future.” In the sequel, Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel to Oct. 21, 2015, turning the date into an annual celebration of the franchise…
