License plate cameras help solve Providence killing, reigniting privacy debate

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Providence police say license plate reader cameras played a pivotal role in the arrest of a suspect in a deadly weekend stabbing, reigniting debate over whether the surveillance system is a vital law enforcement tool or an invasion of privacy.

Chukwnonso Uzome-Eze, 19, appeared in court Monday in connection with the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Marvins Antoine, a UMass Dartmouth football player.

Antoine was stabbed outside Mezzo Lounge early Saturday morning.
