ROCKFORD — City Council members have approved local landmark status for the Otis Eddy house, a Victorian-era home that sits on a portion of the former Village Green site.
Aldermen voted unanimously in a voice vote on Monday to OK the landmark designation for the 150-year-old, two-story Gothic Revival-style house at 2520 N. Main St. on the North End. It is the city’s 30th local landmark, a designation designed to protect and preserve significant properties.
“No matter who you talk to on the North End of Rockford, they can easily identify or know the Village Green house,” said Amanda Becker, chairwoman of the city’s Historic Preservation Commission. “The house itself is a recognizable landmark for northwest Rockford, and it’s one of the last remaining homes from that time period.”…
