Criminal proceedings suspended in Bakersfield crash that killed married couple after defense requests competency hearing

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A woman charged with two counts of murder in an alleged drunken driving crash that killed a married couple will be examined by a clinical psychologist after her attorney filed a motion stating he has doubts she’s competent to stand trial.

Judge Tiffany Organ-Bowles suspended criminal proceedings on Tuesday and ordered an expedited examination of Anabell Correa, with a hearing on the psychologist’s report set for Sept. 29.

If Correa is found competent, her trial would proceed and could still begin by Oct. 8 — after which a prosecution witness becomes medically unavailable…
