A backyard afternoon ended in tragedy. Now a mother faces serious questions

An Indiana mother is facing a felony charge after police say her 3-year-old son drowned in a backyard swimming pool while she was supposed to be watching him.

Authorities in Evansville say 41-year-old Amie Jo Farber was arrested Sept. 19 and charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death after the child was found unresponsive in a pool at a home on North Second Avenue. According to court records and police documents cited by local news outlets and The Tampa Free Press, the boy later died at a hospital.

Investigators say Farber arrived at the home with her son during the afternoon and asked if the child could use the pool. The homeowner agreed but told her she would need to supervise him while he was swimming. The boy was reportedly using a flotation device while playing in the water, 14news.com reported…
