California’s elite colleges made a strong showing in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of America’s best national universities. But a new methodology contributed to some reshuffling on the list, with some of the state’s top public institutions moving lower.
Stanford University and the California Institute of Technology tied for No. 5, behind Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton, Harvard and Yale. Stanford dropped a notch in the annual ranking, from No. 4 last year, while Caltech rose from No. 11.
UCLA and UC Berkeley also tied, at No. 20 – down from 17 and 15, respectively, in last year’s rankings. The schools were both ranked first place for America’s best public universities…
