LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The man convicted of a violent 1988 home invasion in Dimondale will be resentenced per Michigan Supreme Court order, Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd announced Tuesday.
David Armstrong Jones, 57, is currently serving a 50-to-70-year prison sentence for armed robbery, felony firearm, unlawfully driving away an automobile and breaking and entering an occupied building with intent.
His conviction stems from a July 4, 1988 home invasion where prosecutors say a then-19-year-old Jones, his brother and a friend broke into a Dimondale home before beating and robbing the man inside, stealing his car and driving away from the scene.
An Eaton County jury convicted him in 1990 and he was sent to prison, where Lloyd says he attempted to challenge his conviction to both the state supreme court and the Court of Appeals on the grounds that his sentence was disproportionate and inconsiderate of his age. These appeals all failed…
