GRAND LEDGE, Mich. (WLNS) — A mobile bookstore based in Grand Ledge now officially has a place to call home. Sis’s Stories opened just over a year ago and is already expanding. The business is adding a physical storefront to its already running bookstore trailer.
The owners, a mother-daughter duo, Shante Newbury and Kali Mullen, have always bonded over books and dreamed of opening a bookstore. Newbury found videos online showing bookstore trailers and was inspired – it only took around 6 weeks to get their trailer up and running. Since then, they’ve traveled the state and county (and Ohio) to get books in people’s hands.
Since they’re based in Michigan, the trailer is only seasonal and the permanent site will finally allow them to expand programming year-round. Mullen says that while the trailer definitely created a great space for book lovers to connect, having the physical site allows them to actually build a third space for community members.
“We’ve loved the community we’ve been able to build, and this just gives us more of a space to be able to bring people together,” says Mullen. “That’s honestly the root of the store’s building, that community, having people that are, you know, readers you can discuss books with and have that bond with. So, we’re very excited to be able to continue that in the storefront.”…
