Just in time for fall, a new Cedar Rapids restaurant that serves a classic comfort food has opened for business! The Chunky Potato officially started taking online orders on Monday, September 21st!
According to the Facebook page, The Chunky Potato specializes “in crafting bold flavors and comforting meals featuring chunky, perfectly cooked potatoes with a variety of tasty toppings.” If you’re a fan of loaded baked potatoes, this is the restaurant for you!
What’s on the Menu?
The menu at The Chunky Potato may be fairly small, but the potatoes are NOT. All of their loaded baked potatoes are 17 to 19 oz. and overflowing with toppings! If you want to play it safe, there’s ‘The Loaded Classic,’ which features cheese, bacon, sour cream, and chives, or the ‘Heartland Sloppy Spud,’ topped with seasoned beef, cheese, and chives. There’s also an option to build your own loaded potato.
If you want to try something a little more adventurous, you can order the ‘Pike Place Potato,’ which is loaded with mildly-spicy andouille sausage, whipped cream cheese, and sautéed yellow onions (and the option to add jalapenos!), or ‘The New Mexico,’ a baked potato “smothered in savory pork green chile sauce made with roasted Hatch green chiles, then topped with sour cream and shredded cheddar jack cheese.” YUM!

The Chunky Potato is a ghost kitchen, which means that it’s a restaurant that operates out of the kitchen of another restaurant. In this case, that kitchen is inside of Fork With It Kitchen & Bar at 415 3rd Street SE in Downtown Cedar Rapids.
