KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City’s Transportation, Infrastructure and Operations Committee approved a contract renewal worth more than $11.8 million to repave streets damaged during water main and sewer repairs.
The contract now goes to the full City Council for final approval. A vote could come as soon as Thursday.
Contract covers citywide repairs
KC Water Services Deputy Director of Engineering David Poirier said the contract covers repaving after the utility digs up streets to fix underground water and sewer lines.
“We are going to impact people’s commutes, whether they’re driving, walking, that sort of thing,” Poirier said.
KC Water maintains 2,800 miles of water main and 2,800 miles of sewer pipeline throughout the city, according to Poirier. Some of the pipes are more than a century old, leading to frequent breaks that damage streets when crews repair them…
