(Loving Living Local) – Sometimes it takes a fresh pair of eyes to help us rediscover the magic in our own backyard. For Shreveport residents, that perspective arrived recently through the lens of veteran New York portrait and editorial photographer Scott Pasfield.
With a career spanning high-profile celebrity portraiture, film and TV work (IFC’s Dinner for Five, Comedy Central’s Stella), the award-winning national project Gay in America, and even co-founding an acclaimed Vermont boutique inn—named “Best New Inn” by Yankee Magazine and a winner on Hotel Showdown—Pasfield is no stranger to telling compelling visual stories. Yet his recent journey brought him somewhere entirely unexpected.
Heading south to visit a sick uncle in Florida, Pasfield made a pact with himself to avoid the rush and take a deliberate cross-country road trip. Planning his route around a simple rhythm (allowing himself one evening and one morning in each town to catch the light at its visual peak), he began to realize that “home” could be found in any of these remarkable towns. After a surprising first stop in Beaumont, Texas, where he was captivated by the local artistic community repurposing historic architecture, he arrived in Shreveport.
He was instantly blown away. Everywhere he turned, he saw a photograph waiting to happen. Capturing unique, perspective-driven imagery of hidden gems and local landmarks, Pasfield framed angles and locations around the city in ways locals said they had never seen before.
