Cyclist Yokio Saijoh, age 63, died after colliding with a car at the intersection of 800 S and 1000 E. The crash occurred at 6:13 pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. According to Salt Lake City Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Gregory Wilking, the motorist was turning from eastbound 800 S to go northbound on 1000 East when the cyclist struck the car. The cyclist was traveling down the hill, westbound on 800 S in the bike lane.
According to Sgt. Wilking, the driver has not been cited, and the crash is still under investigation. Additionally, according to Sgt. The speed of the cyclist apparently was registered on the cyclist’s computer. And, the cyclist was wearing a helmet. The cyclist apparently hit the rear quarter panel of the car. Full results of the Salt Lake City Police Department investigation could take months before they are released.
