EUGENE, Ore. — Flags at Oregon public institutions will flew at half-staff Tuesday in honor of a 25-year-old wildland firefighter with family in Springfield who died after being injured on the Austin Fire.
Jesús Eduardo Olimpo Gutierrez Toral, 25, died on Sept.9 from injuries while battling the Austin wildland fire in the Mount Hood National Forest.
According to a U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service fatality report, Gutiérrez Toral was a part of a contract falling module and critically injured the afternoon of Sept. 9 while conducting hazard-tree mitigation.
