LONDON – A tragic mass shooting at a house party in KwaMakhutha township, located about 19 miles south of Durban on South Africa’s east coast, has left at least 11 people dead, including a pregnant woman, and three others injured, authorities reported Tuesday night.
According to the South African Police Service, the gathering was abruptly attacked when three armed men arrived and opened fire on those attending the party. The incident has prompted an active manhunt, though no arrests have been made so far.
While the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, police indicated that some of the victims were known to law enforcement in connection with criminal activities. Officials also stated that a possible feud between rival groups has not been ruled out as a contributing factor.
