MILFORD —Thomas Carrigan can recall working long hours as a lawyer in downtown Worcester, trying to make ends meet for his young family. But he felt he was missing out on watching his children grow.
So he made the move to work in the courts. After a little more than a year at Dudley District Court, he was promoted in 1998 to clerk-magistrate in Milford District Court. On Oct. 2, Carrigan will retire after more than 28 years running the clerk’s office at the courthouse.
“Frankly, I wasn’t making enough money as a lawyer — there were a lot of lawyers in Worcester,” Carrigan, 72, told the Daily News. “I also had three children, and I made a promise to myself that I wasn’t going to miss my kids growing up. So I was going to look for something with more sane hours.”…
