Jonathan Taylor Thomas, known for his role on the hit sitcom “Home Improvement,” was detained Monday in Westlake Village, California, following an incident involving law enforcement. Court records indicate that Thomas was taken to the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station, booked, and subsequently released.
According to sources cited by TMZ, Thomas was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by deputies investigating a DUI. Officers reportedly instructed Thomas to remain inside the vehicle, but he exited despite their orders. Authorities also noted that he appeared intoxicated during the encounter.
Law enforcement officials told People magazine that the driver of the vehicle was being held for a DUI investigation when Thomas chose to leave the car. When deputies asked him to return, he did not comply, leading to charges of obstruction of justice and being drunk in public.
This legal issue comes shortly after Thomas reunited with former “Home Improvement” co-stars Patricia Richardson and Taran Noah Smith. In July, Richardson shared a rare reunion photo with Thomas and Smith, evoking nostalgia for fans of the beloved series that aired more than 25 years ago.
Richardson, who played Jill Taylor on the show, captioned the photo with “My other boys” and a heart emoji. Thomas and Smith portrayed Randy and Mark Taylor, respectively, while Zachery Ty Bryan played the eldest son, Brad.
Thomas gained widespread fame as a child star on “Home Improvement,” also starring in films such as “Tom and Huck” and “Man of the House.” He lent his voice to young Simba in Disney’s 1994 classic “The Lion King.” Despite his success, Thomas stepped away from acting to focus on school and personal growth, explaining in a 2013 interview that he wanted a break after working nonstop since the age of eight.
He departed “Home Improvement” during its final season, with his character moving to Costa Rica. Thomas later made a brief return to television, reuniting with Tim Allen on “Last Man Standing” between 2013 and 2015, where he also directed several episodes.
