LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A DeKalb County man accused of fatally shooting a Gwinnett County police officer during a hotel confrontation now faces an added firearm charge after a new indictment in the case.
Kevin Andrews Jr., 35, appeared for an arraignment hearing Tuesday afternoon in Gwinnett County and entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him. Prosecutors said the updated indictment adds an illegal firearm count tied to the weapon police say was used in the shooting. They argued the gun had a machine gun conversion device on it.
The case centers on the Feb. 1 shooting that killed 25-year-old Senior Officer Pradeep Tamang and seriously wounded Master Police Officer David Reed.
Grand jury charges grew after the April indictment
