Legendary NBA coach Gregg Popovich recently celebrated a new chapter in his personal life, quietly marrying Mary Barth in a private ceremony in Texas. The 77-year-old Hall of Famer tied the knot on September 16, marking his second marriage.
Popovich was previously married to Erin Popovich, who passed away eight years ago after battling a severe illness. His new wife, Mary Barth, was formerly married to Mike Budenholzer, Popovich’s longtime Spurs assistant who later became head coach of the Atlanta Hawks. Barth and Budenholzer divorced in 2016, three years after Budenholzer left the Spurs coaching staff.
This new union comes after Popovich’s recent health challenges, including a mild stroke in November 2024 and a fainting episode in April 2025, which led to his retirement as head coach of the San Antonio Spurs. Despite stepping down from coaching, Popovich remains deeply involved with the franchise as the President of Basketball Operations and continues to mentor players and coaches alike.
