Syracuse, NY — A diabetic resident at Syracuse’s Bishop nursing home had a pressure ulcer so bad in April that the wound had tunneled through their skin, exposing bone and tissue underneath.
Two other residents had similarly severe Level 4 pressure ulcers, the most severe level possible. Level 4 ulcers are deep wounds in which skin loss exposes muscle, tendons, ligaments or bone. They are seen as a telltale sign of nursing home neglect, according to advocates.
