AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The City of Amarillo announced that construction on Bell Street from 34th Avenue to I-40 began Wednesday, affecting traffic.
Officials said traffic changes on Bell St. and Erik Ave. will be in place for improvements to Lawrence Lake’s Force Main and Pump Station Improvement Project, which will support drainage improvements and help mitigate flooding in the Lawrence Lake area.

Wastewater Improvements will also be made to utility holes on Bell St. from 34th Ave. to I-40. Traffic control will taper into the same traffic pattern as the area of Erik Avenue and Emil Avenue, with barriers separating northbound and southbound traffic.
Bell St. – Erik Avenue to Emil Avenue:
- The north end of Bell St. at Erik Ave. will be closed for construction.
- Residential areas along Bell St. will remain accessible.
- Cones will direct northbound traffic into the west lanes.
- Traffic barriers will separate northbound and southbound traffic.
Erik Ave. – Bell Street to Victoria Street:
- Erik Ave. will be closed for construction.
- Residents can enter and exit through the south entrance on Emil Ave.
