DES MOINES, Iowa– Des Moines Public Schools held its first public Reimagining Education progress update meeting Wednesday night at Merrill Middle School for families and community members to listen and ask questions with district leaders.
The meeting focused on expanding on the four main priorities that Reimagining Education is focused on- attendance boundary planning, signature schools, middle school maker spaces and facility improvement projects. Many parents had something to say regarding the proposed attendance boundary lines.
Above are the proposed three new attendance boundaries. This would split the district into Northeast, Northwest and South areas. It is also shaking up what schools kids would attend depending on their location.

Many parents expressed concerns. One woman said her child is currently in elementary school at one school. However, with the new district line, her family would be in a new school area. She is concerned that her newborn will be attending a different school than her child that is already attending elementary school. The district responded that it would do what it can to make the transition as easy as possible.
