This is the second year the Town of Oregon has been adding center line stripes to Town roads. This is a big break with “tradition” where such safety enhancements on country roads were considered an unnecessary use of taxpayers’ dollars.
As a pilot project in 2025 and 2026, the Town’s Road and Safety Committee decided to add 8 to 10 miles of striping to its annual budget for road maintenance. Committee member Robert Pultz was a strong advocate for striping. His extensive research also revealed big safety benefits.
Without centerline stripes people tend to drive down the middle of the road. With stripes they not only stay in their lanes, they drive more slowly, adding to road safety. Striping also helps drivers see roads more clearly at night and in bad weather…
