(KMDL-FM) Despite our long and seemingly never-ending summer heat in South Louisiana, most of us still enjoy a good hot cup of coffee to start the day. Perhaps we add ice when the sun gets warm, but for a lot of Louisiana folks, a cup of coffee almost always seems to be within arm’s reach.
The website Innerbody, a free educational and consumer health website, recently looked into America’s growing obsession with coffee. There was once a time when the best cup of coffee was found in a small town diner or roadside cafe.
How Much Coffee Do People in Louisiana Drink?
In today’s times, coffee has grown from the nickel-and-dime beverage at the diner to the almost ten-buck-a-cup specialty drinks that can be concocted with various milks, creams, juices, add-ons, add-ins, toppers, powders, and sugars.
So, when you want a coffee, where is that you might go to curb your caffeine cravings? In Louisiana, the name Community Coffee reigns supreme. It’s by far the most popular brand of coffee sold in the state, and CC’s Coffee Houses are quite popular, but they are not the most popular spot for coffee in Louisiana, according to Innerbody.
Starbucks would be the second choice that most folks would make after finding out that CC’s and Community aren’t at the top of the list. The Seattle-based brew chain was not our “cup of tea” when it comes to coffee.
In the Lafayette area, you can find thousands of fans of Jet Coffee. That brand has sprung up and grown in popularity in just a few years. The coffee is good, the menu is great, the service is even better; there is a lot to love about Jet Coffee, but perhaps the brand isn’t as widely known outside of Acadiana, so no, it wasn’t at the top of Louisiana’s list of favorite coffee places.
